Being from Raleigh… There there is only 1 Popeye’s Chicken and Biscuits even close to us… and its just on the other side of security at RDU Airport… so what do I do every time I have a flight out of RDU… OVERINDULGE in Popeye’s knowing it will be my last time for a while…

I must say… I’m so excited!!! About the dance gig you may ask…

No about that warm crispy goodness waiting for me right before i get on the plane….mmmm

For those of you from this area… you may not know what your missing so I suggest the next time you’re flying out of RDU… let Popeye’s be your friend!

what a long day…

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

I just finally sat down at my desk after a long long long evening. Tonight was a Latino bennifit concert at Red’s Beach Music. I was the Tech Director for the evening, aloso known the BMIC [Bad Motherfucker In Charge] or at least so Red said…

I’m extremely tired right now… and my ears are still ringing from overpowering bass of the salsa music…

It was a fun night, I got to meet this great brother and sister from Chili as well as some local Latino bands:

Tropa de Tierra Caliente
Los Fieles de Matamoros

They were all really nice guys. I also met this other really nice gentleman from Puerto Rico who had a son named Jeremy.

All in all it was going really smooth until we got a noise complaint from some lady across Capital Boulevard. If you don’t think that bass travels…. Just ask that angry lady… so the rest of the night was Red being WAY over paranoid about the sound level which then in turn made me paranoid… OK NOT REALLY, but I still kept getting the “you better turn that shit down” eye from him…

Red’s a pretty gruff old guy I must say… so this isn’t really an exaggeration … more of a censored understatement. I wouldn’t say that I would ever think of him as if he was my grandpa by any means, but he defiantly is intriguing all the same…I guess when you have been a club owner as long as he has… That’s what happens…

Well…with that said… and my eyes slowly closing, I think its time to call it a night…

Tomorrow… Peace College Tech Rehearsal…

pop songs…stuck…

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I find myself humming a lot of pop music the last week or so. It’s kind of driving me crazy. I’m doing this show currently at Peace College called THEmisanthrope and so I have had to sift through a lot of pop music that …. well lets just say I would normally not listen to.

So basically there is constant G105 play list in my head right now. Last night I felt a need to listen to my Jimmy Eat World - Futures album from front to back to get past this pop epidemic that I am currently in. [Hence the reason for last nights post.]

23 is a very reflective song to me. It’s not the song thats on every play list I make. I love the song don’t get me wrong, but it seems to be reserved for only certain times.

My life has been very reflective the past few weeks. Even this re-birth of pop music has stirred up memories of my friend Johnathan and I singing along to all the tunes Q94 growing up, but the line:

I won’t always love what I’ll never have
I won’t always live in my regrets

They strike this cord in me. They remind me of times when my life wasn’t where it was suppose to be. 23… what a year.

But enough reflecting, I appreciate pop songs for their amazing ability to catch you with their cleverly written hooks, but to me… music is more than just about a hook, cause you can have the best hook in the world but if your melody and composition suck, then your left with just… catchy words.
