What’s Your Definition of Cheap?

I’ve been doing a lot of research on houses especially in the modern development sector for the last two years and I’m always amazed when people are talking about how they built their house cheaply.  Somewhere along the lines I feel like our definition of cheap has changed…. When my parents built their house they paid 150,000 for the whole house and… they built it themselves from new everything.  I just read an article in Dwell Magazine on how this guy got this supposed ”killer deal on a broken down house and small piece of land and he up-fitted it for 170,000. I’m pretty sure this did not include the initial house purchase or the land… For me that still sounds like a not so cheap house… To his credit… he is living in Austin, TX, but still I feel like you can build a cool modern house for even less than that.  The average I usually see is somewhere from…

125,000 to 200,000.

I’d love to see an article on modern houses in the 60,000 dollar range.  Thats what I’m talking about…

Maybe I need to write one and design one myself…
